"On-The-Side" @SEAPORT! |
|
DIY Programming “On-The-Side” The producers behind the acclaimed
Seaport Music series of outdoor indie rock concerts at South Street Seaport,
are bringing a bit of summer, indoors for a collection of shows dubbed
“On-The-Side.” The shows are slated to begin in February at a new DIY venue
dubbed “@SEAPORT.” The @SEAPORT space is a two-level
former retail space that offers basic staging, lighting, video projection and
backline for bands and performers. The goal for “On-The-Side” is to translate
the successful vibe of the summer into smaller,year-round shows, and to
provide artists with a venue in which to try out new material and/or new
collaborative projects artists from other bands. Given the experimental natureof
the project, the Seaport Music team is turning to the DIY model, which has
proven highly successful in Brooklyn and in smaller music shops. Similar to
the free summer Seaport Music shows, “On-The-Side” shows are slated to begin
at 7 p.m. The after-work/living-room concept is a place to kickback with
friends, and hear free live performances. The venue is appropriate for music,
comedy and video performances. |
