Every day of the week we have organized our tours and outings to introduce you to the city’s sights through the eyes of a New Yorker, and every evening there are activities and events to entertain you and help you meet other travelers (as well as experience the city without even leaving the neighborhood!) Let us show you why WE LOVE NY!

Daytime Walking Tours

Our daily walking tours give you the opportunity to see the city through the eyes of a local and learn about NYC’s rich history and culture. Perfect for those who want to see something off the beaten track after seeing all the major attractions!

What You Need to Do for All Tours

  • Sign up on the tour board in the lobby: please note that tours will be cancelled if there are not at least 5 people signed up and ready to go on the tour.
  • Bring Metrocard for the subway ($2.50 per one way ride and $30 for a weekly subway Metrocard).
  • Meet in the lobby at the start time for all tours.
  • Note any other special instructions on the signup sheet on the tour board in the lobby.
  • For groups of 10 or more, please e-mail activities.newyork@hiusa.org to confirm in advance.

Free SoHo, Village, & High Line Park Tour
Starts: 10:00 am
Join this free walking tour. See some of the best shopping, food spots and parks in NYC. This walking tour is explore SoHo, Greenwich Village and the High Line Park. Meet in the hostel lobby at 10am. This tour is free and volunteer lead!
Peoples Music Network Song & Poetry Night
Starts: 7:00 pm
Good afternoon, all!

This evening we'll be hosting our monthly Song and Poetry night hosted by the People's Music Network. They'll be in the New York Room, and anyone is welcome to join in.

This is a monthly event happening on the last Friday of every month. Thanks so much.

Fun NYC Comedy & Clubbing Night
Starts: 7:00 pm
Join NY Comedy Club tour as you visit comedy clubs. Then go to a two comedy show. After grab a REAL New York pizza slice. Finally, go to Coyote Ugly bar.

Bronx Walking Tour

Long known for crime, danger, poverty, The Bronx has also been the home and birthplace of legends from the world of music, fashion, literature, sports, show biz and government. Mostly rebuilt since the days when arson and crime ruled the streets, The Bronx is a vibrant and diverse community, home to bustling shopping districts and big, beautiful parks. Clubbing Downtown

Harlem Gospel Tour

Take a tour Columbia University and St. John the Divine, followed by a visit to a Baptist Church in the heart of 125th Street for a Sunday-morning gospel service with our licensed tour guide, Evan. $10 per person.
Jerry's Grand Tour
Starts: 10:00 am

All day marathon tour of NYC! Bring your walking shoes! Starting in Brooklyn Heights, you will see the following sights and much more. Here is a list of some areas covered in the tour. View Manhattan from Brooklyn Promenade, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, stop at City Hall and Ground Zero, walk along Wall Street, and then take the Staten Island Ferry. After downtown, you will visit Chinatown, Soho, Greenwich Village, the Flatiron District, and Times Sq. The tour guide is Jerry Balch. The cost is $10 per person. Body Logos Class in the New York Room

Looks like a body sculpting class, sounds like a meditation class. Join Tammy Wise, Broadway Dancer turned Tao Minister, bring Easter philosophy into Western fitness sensibilities in her mind body approach to strength. Sunday Pub Crawl in the local area

Join our pub crawl to a local bars nearby the hostel with drink specials. Meet in the lobby at 9pm. This event is free to join.
Free Sunday Comedy Show
Starts: 9:30 pm
Join our in-house comedy show each Sunday night which is hosted by Gibran, a local comedian. Don't miss the fun in the theater room.

famous statues, movie locations, famous buildings and MUCH MORE. This is a free volunteer-led tour which last 2 to 3 hours. Meet in the lobby
